A Professional Approach to Pupil Transportation

CASTO is recognized by State and Federal Agencies and other professional organizations as the leader of School Transportation Safety in California.

Activities throughout the state are coordinated by local chapters that meet once a month to discuss the latest programs and ideas in school pupil transportation. Local chapters sponsor safety workshops during the year. CASTO attracts over 10,000 members and guests to these annual activities.

The CASTO Creed

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

The California Association of School Transportation Officials (CASTO) exists for several reasons.

First and foremost to promote safety for school pupils in a variety of ways.

To influence other groups and organizations to join with us in providing safety for school pupils.

To guard against efforts to take the easy way out, lower standards, and increase hazards and risks for school pupils.

It is true we live in a "dangerous and uncertain world…" "John F. Kennedy"

CASTO is an organization dedicated to decreasing the danger and making the world a better and safer place to live for school pupils.

What do I get out of it?

Many benefits of belonging to CASTO can't be measured, but here are a few:

  • Meeting with fellow professionals on topics of importance to the tasks we perform.

  • Up-to-date information on changes in the industry.

  • Information on legislation and regulations.

  • CASTOWAYS - A professional publication with stimulating and thought provoking articles.

  • Workshops for drivers, dispatchers, trainers, mechanics, and supervisors.

  • Award banquets to recognize outstanding contributions by drivers and others.

  • State conference involving professional seminars and informative meetings.

  • Representation before the CHP School Board Advisory Committee and the California State Legislature.

  • Participation in State and Local School Bus Roadeos to improve driver skills.

Perhaps the best reason to join CASTO and what is most important to get out of any organization is that:

Here is a chance to effectively become involved and improve the world in which we work. None of us can individually have much of an impact on large organizations.  One of the tragedies of our times is the relatively helplessness of individuals.

Individuals joined together, working together in a vigorous effective organization, such as CASTO can make a difference; can improve things; can influence groups and individuals to the direction that will improve safety for school pupils and working conditions for drivers.

The fact that you increase your power, clout and impact on the world by 1,000 fold is a good reason to join CASTO.
